El Camino Real Easy Winner in City Section Wrestling Finals
David Aparicio, Greg McMurray, Roy Steinbock and Saul Emard posted victories to lift El Camino Real High to the City Section wrestling championship Saturday at Granada Hills High.
The Conquistadores finished with 190 points to outdistance Canoga Park (157 1/2), Fremont (142), San Fernando (88 1/2) and Granada Hills (79).
McMurray, named the meet’s outstanding wrestler, pinned Hector Cervantes of Fremont in 4 minutes 43 seconds. McMurray, a senior, finished fifth meet in the state last year.
Other Valley winners included Canoga Park’s Mario Acosta (98 pounds), Steve Pratt (126) and Chris Camarena (132); San Fernando’s Greg Tan (154); Granada Hills’ Karl Finley (175); Birmingham’s Barak Isaacs (191); and Chatsworth’s Raymundo Martinez (245).
The winners in each category advance to the state meet Friday and Saturday in Stockton.
