NHL ROUNDUP : Lowly Nordiques Rise Up to Knock Off Penguins, 3-2

Ken McRae and Lucien DeBlois scored goals in the third period Monday night to give the Quebec Nordiques a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Quebec.

It was only the second victory in the last 18 games for the Nordiques, who were the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race and have by far the worst record in the NHL (11-46-6).

DeBlois scored the winning goal when he knocked in the rebound of Joe Sakic’s shot from the point at 13:49 while Randy Gilhen served a hooking penalty.

The Penguins are 2-3-1 since Mario Lemieux was sidelined with a herniated disc in his back that may have ended his season.

New York Rangers 6, Boston 1--Darren Turcotte scored three goals, including two in a five-goal second period at New York.

The Rangers won all three meetings with the Bruins, the first time since entering the NHL in 1926 they have swept the season series from Boston. The victory extended the Rangers’ unbeaten streak to 4-0-1 and ended the Bruins’ four-game winning streak.

The Rangers’ have a three-point lead over the New York Islanders in the Patrick Division.

Vancouver 5, Toronto 2--Doug Lidster and Trevor Linden scored in the third period as the Canucks won at Vancouver.
