Peter Micelli, senior basketball center for Bay League champion Beverly Hills High School, was named the most valuable player in the league, and teammates Jonah Naulls, a junior, and Brandon Patton, a sophomore, were named to the all-league first team. Micelli averaged 23 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots a game.

Ryan Jamison, Loyola High School basketball center from Mar Vista, set a school record with 28 rebounds in his team’s 83-59 playoff victory over Victor Valley. He also had 17 points, four blocked shots, four assists and four steals in that game and leads the Cubs with averages of 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.3 blocked shots a game and 67.5% shooting from the field.

The Marina Cities Sharks Squirt B hockey team, which skates at the Culver Ice Rink, won the championship of the age 10 and 11 bracket at the 13th annual Presidents’ Day Tournament, sponsored by the Pike’s Peak Amateur Hockey Assn. and held at Colorado Springs, Colo. The local team is coached by Hector Guzman and Ed Tar. Phil Kaufman is team manager.

Chip Engelland, former Palisades High School and Duke University basketball star, averaged a team-high 27 points a game for the World Basketball League all-stars, who posted a 5-1 record on a tour of Italy, playing against professional teams from six cities. Engelland plays for the Calgary 88s in the WBL.

Six former Westside high school baseball players are on the Harbor College roster this season: first baseman-pitcher Ryan Karp of Beverly Hills High School, pitchers Patrick Ahearne and Tom Fulkerson of St. Bernard, outfielder George Baker and pitcher Sky Lasowitz of Fairfax and pitcher Steve Campos of Venice.

Peter Todd shot a 36 for nine holes to win the A flight at the Penmar Men’s Golf Club’s February tournament. Other flight winners and their gross scores were Elias Harb , B, 38; Gene Schlom, C, 39; Bob Koller, D, 43, and Robert Konecki, temporary handicaps, 39.

A news release from the club notes that Pete Vaughn, not Vinnie Heid, won the A flight at the group’s Los Robles Greens tournament.
