This Reader Has Own Opinion on Whether Cheval Volant Was Best

Share

I arose early Sunday morning to relish the victory by my horse, Cheval Volant, in the Grade I Las Virgenes at Santa Anita last Saturday. Naturally, I was disappointed to see a headline that indicated she won the race but may not have been the best horse. Further, the story indicated, “even Cheval Volant’s connections would have to admit they did not start the best filly.” Needless to say, the story will not make my scrapbook.

I am the owner, and I feel Cheval Volant was the best horse in the Las Virgenes. If Mr. Mieszerski wishes to disagree, I have the trophy, prestige and money to prove it.

The essence of sport is to crown the winner for that particular event on that particular day. No doubt, Mr. Mieszerski probably feels Mike Tyson is still heavyweight champion of the world and Easy Goer was 1989 horse of the year. Accordingly, he should seek Buster Douglas’ and Sunday Silence’s connections as to their admission that they were not the best.
