Louisville’s Holden Makes All 14 Shots to Break Division I Shooting Record
Cornelius Holden set an NCAA Division I record Saturday by making all 14 of his shots and scoring 32 points, including two free throws with eight seconds left to give No. 21 Louisville a 73-71 victory over Southern Mississippi.
Holden, a 6-7 sophomore from Crenshaw High, also made all four of his foul shots as the Cardinals came back from a 42-36 halftime deficit.
The previous best perfect shooting game in Division I was 13 of 13, held by six players. The last to do it was Brad Daugherty of North Carolina against UCLA on Nov. 24, 1985.
The overall NCAA mark is 20 for 20 by Lance Berwald of Division II North Dakota State.
Louisville, regular-season Metro Conference champion at 23-7 and 12-2, plays Tulane Thursday in the first round of the conference tournament. Southern Mississippi (18-10, 9-5) is seeded second and plays Virginia Tech.
