COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Defeats San Diego State, 4-3

Ken Whitworth allowed 12 hits but only three runs as UC Irvine defeated San Diego State, 4-3, in a nonconference baseball game Sunday at San Diego.

Whitworth is 5-1. Billy Bardens had three hits, scored a run and drove in another for Irvine (12-7). Mike Goodcase and Al Rodriguez also had RBI singles for Irvine.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

University of the Pacific 82, UC Irvine 28--Julie Szukalski scored 21 points to lead host Pacific (13-14, 7-11). Yvonne Catala had 11 for Irvine (1-26, 0-18).
