The Toronto Maple Leafs suspended right wing John Kordic Monday, two days after he failed to show up for a game with Detroit.
Kordic, acquired from Montreal in November, 1988, said he did not expect to appear again in a Toronto uniform. “I’m gone, I’m through, they’re going to trade me (today),” Kordic said after a meeting with General Manager Floyd Smith.
Saturday, Kordic called the Leafs’ dressing room about 20 minutes after he was supposed to arrive, and finally made it to the arena Sunday.
Earlier this season, Kordic was suspended for two games by the NHL for an attack on Minnesota’s Mike Modano.
Last week, Kordic and goalie Allan Bester got involved in a shoving match at a Vancouver restaurant.
