ROUNDUP : Canyons Outplays Santa Monica, 14-3

Gary Morgan and Steve Kovacic each hit two doubles and Robert Trujillo and Billy Horvat hit home runs to lead host College of the Canyons to a 14-3 Western State Conference victory over Santa Monica Tuesday.

Morgan and Kovacic each drove in three runs as Canyons improved to 11-5, 3-0 in conference play. Santa Monica is 14-9, 2-1.

In other college baseball games:

Glendale 12, Pierce 6--Glendale scored early and often against host Pierce in a Western State Conference game. Glendale’s big blows were two home runs by Bob Hugasian--a solo shot in the sixth inning and a two-run blast in the ninth.

Mike Shwartzer and Jim Doushgounian homered for Pierce (7-9, 0-3 in conference play). Chris Murphy (2-4) took the loss and starter Mike Larsen (1-1) was the winner for Glendale (1-2 in conference).

Oxnard 12, Valley 10--Valley fell behind, 10-2, after four innings of a Western State Conference game against visiting Oxnard.

Pat Avila had four doubles and five runs batted in for Oxnard (2-0 in conference). Valley is 5-10-2, 1-1.

Mission 5, L.A. City 0--Nick Lymberopoulos gave up one hit, struck out seven, walked three to lead visiting Mission in a Southern California Athletic Conference opener.

Azusa Pacific 7, Cal Lutheran 3--Despite two solo home runs by Devon Schutzler, Cal Lutheran (6-4) lost a nonconference game at home.

The Master’s 14, Christ College 11--Third baseman Andy Martin was three for five with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Master’s (5-9) in a nonconference game at home.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Chatsworth 9, Loyola 8--Mitch Root hit a two-run home run to spark a five-run first inning and retired the final four batters to register his first save in the third round of the Westside tournament at Loyola.

Kennedy 9, Westchester 2--Lazaro Campos hit a grand slam and Jason Rosen and Ben Guzman each had three hits to lead Kennedy (3-0) in a Westside tournament game at Westchester.

Rio Mesa 7, Venice 6--Jeff Flores had two hits and Dmitri Young drove in three runs with a single to lead visiting Rio Mesa (2-1) in a Westside tournament game.

Beverly Hills 8, Alemany 3--Joey Rosselli hit a three-run home run as visiting Alemany (1-2) dropped a Westside tournament game.

Camarillo 8, Notre Dame 2--Notre Dame pitcher Cary Wichmann had a no-hitter going into the sixth but reliever Steve Colella was shelled in the third round of the Westside tournament.

Chaminade 7, Montclair Prep 4--Colin Havert’s two-run single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and gave Chaminade (2-1) the Westside tournament win.

Sylmar 7, Santa Monica 4--Ben Solic and Billy Garcia each had two hits for Sylmar (2-1) in a Westside tournament game.

San Pedro 13, Harvard 10--Adam Braun went two for three, but visiting Harvard (1-2) suffered a loss in the third round of the Westside tournament.

Canyon 9, Marshall 2--Steve Mann was three for four to lead Canyon in the Westside tournament.

Taft 8, Crossroads 6--Jamie Zeichick hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Taft in a Foothill tournament game at Crossroads.

Newbury Park 6, La Quinta 5--Derek Bovard came in during the sixth inning and shut the door on a La Quinta rally in a Loara tournament game at La Quinta.

Simi Valley 14, Canoga Park 6--Tyler Nelson was three for three, including a double and a home run, to lead host Simi Valley (2-1) in a nonleague game.

Moorpark 13, Citrus 3--Missy Cress went two for four with four RBIs for host Moorpark (5-3) in a nonconference game.

La Reina 9, Westlake 0--Michelle St. Pierre, a freshman, tossed a no-hitter to lead host LaReina (2-1) in a nonleague game.

Sylmar 2, Granada Hills 1--Granada Hills’ Bonnie Weinberg tossed a no-hitter but gave up two unearned runs in a nonleague loss.

Oak Park 28, Montclair Prep 3--Niki Rae went four for six with four RBIs for host Oak Park (1-0) in a nonleague game.
