PREP ROUNDUP : Mission Viejo Baseball Coach Drake Gets 200th Victory

Mike Boucher hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, giving Mission Viejo High School a 7-6 victory over host Santa Ana Wednesday in the second round of the Newport Elks tournament.

The victory was Mission Viejo Coach Ron Drake’s 200th. Drake has coached Mission Viejo for 12 years, compiling a 200-89 record.

Mark Newman had two hits and one run batted in for Mission Viejo (2-0).

In other Newport-Elks Tournament games:

Mater Dei 14, Costa Mesa 0--Lionel Hastings and Cale Carter each had three hits and an RBI to lead Mater Dei. Ryan Andersen had two two-run home runs, one in the third inning and one in the fourth. Jason Dietrich struck out seven in gaining the victory.

Tustin 7, Saddleback 3--Shawn Green had three hits, a run and an RBI and Chad Faltz had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run for Tustin.

Estancia 6, Foothill JV 0--Cody Burrows had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases to lead Estancia.

Esperanza 12, Orange 1--Keith McDonald had three hits, including a two-run home run in the first inning, and scored twice to lead Esperanza (1-1).

Capistrano Valley 10, Corona del Mar 5--Dave Guillen had three hits and two RBIs to lead visiting Capistrano Valley (2-2).

In the El Segundo baseball tournament:

Edison 3, Brea-Olinda 2--Rocky Balch homered to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Edison (3-0). Pat Simec (0-1) struck out 10 and walked none for Brea-Olinda (2-2).

In nonleague baseball:

Whittier Christian 3, Whittier 0--David Whitby had two doubles and an RBI to lead visiting Whittier Christian (4-0).

Woodbridge 6, Carson 5--Carson led, 5-4, until Woodbridge scored two runs in the seventh. Ryan Sunderman singled, took third on an error and scored on a wild pitch to tie the score for Woodbridge. Jason Fisher scored on the front end of a two-out double-steal for the victory.

In nonleague softball:

Santa Ana 13, Corona del Mar 0--Santa Ana freshman Stacy Lumley pitched a no-hitter in her first varsity start, striking out 12 and walking two in a game called in the sixth inning because of the mercy rule. Lumley also had three hits and scored three runs. Santa Ana (3-0) scored six runs in the first inning and seven in the sixth. Senior Jennifer Lumley, Stacy’s sister, had two hits and three RBIs.

El Toro 8, Jurupa Valley 0--Paige Lauby pitched a no-hitter and would have had a perfect game but she hit two batters with pitches. Lauby struck out 11. Karrie Yoshioka had two hits and two RBIs for El Toro (4-0).

Huntington Beach 4, Woodbridge 2--Shanen Kreipl had two hits and scored to lead host Huntington Beach (1-1) over Woodbridge (0-1).

Mission Viejo 1, Marina 0--Mission Viejo’s Michelle Daugherty had a bases-loaded single to score Lynn Cooper in the bottom of the seventh.

Los Alamitos 10, Jordan 0--DeeAnn Chesebro had two hits, including a double, an RBI and two runs scored to lead Los Alamitos. Christy Bowles homered in the third inning, scored three runs and had three RBIs.

In the Corona softball tournament:

Irvine 3, Ramona 0--Jennifer Brandage pithed a two-hitter to lead Irvine.

San Clemente 3, Arlington 2--Wendy Moon had three hits and two RBIs to lead San Clemente (2-1).

In the Chino softball tournament:

Foothill 3, Ganesha 2--Melissa Wielandt had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI to lead Foothill (2-2).
