HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Coleman Throws No-Hitter for Orange Glen

Scott Coleman pitched a no-hitter to lead Orange Glen to a 7-0 victory over San Dieguito in the Warhawk tournament.

Combined with four no-hit innings Coleman threw Saturday before being lifted because he had reached his predetermined limit of 80 pitches, he now has 11 consecutive hitless innings.

Coleman, a senior, struck out 10 against San Dieguito and nine Saturday in the 14-0 victory over Mar Vista.

John Bowerman went three for three with a home run and Jim Roby was three for four for Orange Glen.

In other Warhawk games:

Sweetwater 2, Castle Park 1--Pitcher Raul Sanchez had a perfect game going for four innings. He not only got the victory by pitching the first five innings, he got the save by coming back in the seventh to get the final two outs.

And that’s not all. Sanchez also drove in both runs for Sweetwater (3-0), going three for three with a triple.

Mira Mesa 10, Carlsbad 4--Beau Champoux had four RBIs on three singles and scored twice for Mira Mesa (3-0).

Hoover 12, Mt. Miguel 7--D.C. Jacobs had four RBIs, going two for three including a bases-loaded double. Roger Blake went two for two and had three RBIs. Hoover is 1-2.

Kearny 10, Serra 6--Jason Rodondo went three for four with two RBIs. Rob Fragoso was the winning pitcher, striking out four, and went two for three with an RBI. Kearny is 2-1.

Bonita Vista 7, Point Loma 4--Mike Barnett went 3 for 3 with four RBIs to lead the Barons (1-2). Point Loma dropped to 1-2.

Madison 17, Mar Vista 3--Robbie Hoffman went two for four with a grand slam to highlight an 11-run fifth for Madison (2-1). Matt Campbell added three hits with four RBIs. Gabe Roberts pitched a one-hitter through six innings for the victory. Mar Vista dropped to 1-2.

In the Reyman-Pirate tournament:

Grossmont 11, El Camino 1--The game featured four home runs, by Grossmont’s Todd Cady, Greg Layson and Scott Brennan and El Camino’s Ricky Spears. Grossmont center fielder Lenny Van Avery was three for three with two RBIs. Grossmont is 4-0, El Camino 1-1.

San Pasqual 14, Laguna Beach 6--Dave Vejtasa went three for three with two RBIs, and teammate Sam Macari hit a bases-empty home run. Pitcher Shawn Brooks had seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Rancho Buena Vista 9, Oceanside 9--Four RBV players collected three hits: James Gore, who added three RBIs, Steve Valencia and Kevin Leppert. Terry Vaughn was three for four with four RBIs for Oceanside (1-0-1).

Ramona 6, Torrey Pines 4--Ramona scored four unearned runs after what would have been the third out on a strikeout in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs’ (1-1) good fortune made a loser of Anthony Napoli, who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He had nine strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings for the Falcons (1-1). Mark Swaim led Torrey with two hits.

Fallbrook 5, Temecula Valley 3--Dan Furleigh doubled and had three RBIs, and Jeremy Fitzgerald had three hits for the Warriors (2-0). Sophomore Steve Pack pitched a five-hitter with no earned runs.

Nonleague

Marian 7, Bishop’s 4--Giancarlo Ruiz had a two-out, two-RBI single to tie the game in the fourth, and Jose Iniguez drove in two in the sixth to give Marian the lead.
