Breathless With Anticipation

Before Walt Disney’s “Dick Tracy” hits theaters in June, Breathless Mahoney wear will be hanging on the racks of Bullock’s, Nordstrom and Contempo Casuals. L.A. Glo has been given the license to copy the clothes that Madonna wears in the movie. The stretch satin siren dresses, with rhinestone spaghetti straps or sleeves made of feathers, will retail for less than $200. The dresses are vampy and kind of trampy, with plunging necklines and thigh-high slits, but fun nevertheless.

SEEING RED: It seems J.C. Penney doesn’t trust the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to fully honor “reel” fashion--you know, the on-screen clothes that shape the fashion biz. They polled fashion editors in a survey to determine which films had the most fashion impact. Two reds made a right: Ellen Barkin’s red leather jacket worn in “Sea of Love” and Michelle Pfeiffer’s oft-imitated red evening dress from “The Fabulous Baker Boys.”

HAIR TODAY: Delia Sheppard, the Danish model-singer-dancer who has modeled for Karl Lagerfeld, has a new look for her role in “Rocky V,” starring Sylvester Stallone and due out next November. Laurence Roberts at the Umberto Salon in Beverly Hills styled her a shoulder-length blunt cut with a soft wave over one eye, in “Irish-setter red,” adds colorist Stuart Gavert. Tom Cruise has a new look too, a permanent wave, for his next movie, “Days of Thunder,” scheduled for a May release. Hairdresser Bruce Wayne, also from Umberto, used a special, “alternating direction wave” to add texture and, dare we repeat it, “uncontrived movement.” But Joan Chen of “The Last Emperor” is the true radical of the trio. She had her waist-length hair bobbed to a futuristic crew cut by LeMaire for “The Blood of Heroes,” now playing locally.

BLACK IS BACK: When Debbie Harry played at club Vertigo Sunday, die-hard fans watched the former leader of Blondie rock through a set peppered with old and new tunes while emulating her basic black attire. Harry, whose name has been linked to underground chic, wore a black T-shirt as a dress. At the evening’s finale, when Iggy Pop mounted the stage for a duet of his “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” Harry threw caution, and her T-shirt, to the wind and finished the show in her undergarb and stockings, all black, of course.
