From Times staff and Wire reports

A bank robber who used stolen money to track President Bush around the country was captured when he bolted from a federal courtroom and tried to escape, authorities said. John Daughetee, 35, was seized on the 19th floor of the federal courthouse. Richard McDrew of the Secret Service, said Daughetee purchased a gun, dressed like a Secret Service agent and tried to infiltrate security lines around Bush in Detroit. After his capture, Daughetee was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles Legge to 46 months in prison on one of six robbery counts in order to get Daughetee into the federal psychiatric unit in Rochester, Minn., for care.
