Figueras-Dotti, Rubin Stay Calm by Shooting 67s for Tucson Lead
Marta Figueras-Dotti of Spain and Nancy Rubin escaped afternoon winds and shot five-under-par 67s to share the first-round lead of the $300,000 LPGA Tucson Open Thursday.
Figueras-Dotti and Rubin were two of 14 players from the morning tee times who broke par 72. Only nine players from the afternoon group were under par while battling winds up to 25 m.p.h.
Kate Rogerson shot a 69 for the low afternoon score. The other eight were all at 71.
Amy Benz is one stroke back with a 68, and Becky Pearson is two back with Rogerson at 69.
Pat Bradley carded a 70. A victory would make Bradley the LPGA’s first $3-million winner. The 38-year-old is $34,357 short.
