UC Santa Barbara Gets Commitment From El Camino Real Pitcher Treend

Share

Pat Treend of El Camino Real High, a 6-foot-4 right-hander who pitched for the Woodland Hills West team that won the American Legion World Series last year, has orally committed to play baseball at UC Santa Barbara.

Treend chose Santa Barbara over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal State Long Beach, schools he also visited.

Treend was 4-3 with a 5.95 earned-run average last year. He has opened this season with wins over Taft and Canoga Park and a save against Chatsworth.

The next period in which a high school senior can sign a national letter of intent begins April 11. Treend is the second El Camino Real player to land a Division I scholarship this year. Ryan McGuire, a first baseman-pitcher, previously committed to UCLA.

Kim Weil, a senior at Hart High, has orally committed to attend Hawaii on a softball scholarship.

Weil, a right-handed pitcher, is 4-1. She posted a 25-2 record last year and has won 65 games, six shy of the school record set by former UCLA pitcher Samantha Ford.

The Malibu Trail 50-mile endurance run is scheduled for Saturday at 5 a.m. at Paramount Ranch in Agoura. The run through the Santa Monica Mountains has a 13-hour limit.
