HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Foderaro Gives Hart Quite a Start: 1st No-Hitter

Share

With left-hander Andrew Lorraine and right-hander Keith Halcovich forming one of the region’s strongest pitching rotations, Kevin Foderaro was an unlikely starter in Hart High’s Foothill League opener Friday at Alhambra.

He was even more unlikely to pitch a no-hitter.

But Foderaro, a 6-foot-2 senior right-hander, made the most of his second start of the year, leading Hart to a 10-0 victory with his first career no-hitter.

Foderaro (2-0), the Indians’ No. 1 reliever, was thrust into a starting role after Lorraine and Halcovich were forced to pitch Tuesday in a nine-inning game against Saugus. He answered with seven strikeouts and one walk.

“He was the only one with an arm that was rested,” Coach Bud Murray said. “He’s made some great strides, that kid. He used to be kinda wimpy on the mound. Now he’s kinda pulling that bill down and fighting you. He’s turning into a competitor.”

Hart (4-1-2), which began the week with a .143 team batting average, collected five extra-base hits, including three triples as part of a 14-hit attack. Lance Migita and Marty Downen hit solo home runs.
