SIDELINES : LPGA Plans Europe-U.S. Event
A Ryder Cup-style contest between the United States and Europe may make its debut this year; a sponsor has been found to fund the event, the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. said today.
“We have a tentative agreement with Karsten Manufacturing (the maker of Ping clubs) as the underwriters of the first-ever Ryder Cup event for the LPGA,” the organization said. “We are still trying to finalize the name and the site and we are still in negotiation with Europe on these selections.”
The match is expected to take place in the United States late this year.
