SIDELINES : Georgia Tech’s Scott Honored

ST. LOUIS — The Sporting News today named Georgia Tech forward Dennis Scott as its College Player of the Year.
Scott is joined on the publication’s 1989-90 All-America first team by Larry Johnson, Nevada-Las Vegas; Derrick Coleman, Syracuse; Gary Payton, Oregon State, and Steve Smith, Michigan State.
Scott, a junior, scored 30 points or more 14 times this season--a school record--and led the Atlantic Coast Conference in successful three-point shots with 113. He also holds ACC records for three-point goals in a game, a season and a career.
Scott entered the NCAA Tournament as the ACC’s leading scorer, averaging 27.2 points, the highest scoring average in the conference since 1975. He also averaged 6.6 rebounds a game.
