VERO BEACH, Fla. — Jaime Jarrin, the Spanish-language voice of the Dodgers for 31 years, was hospitalized in fair condition today after an automobile accident.
Jarrin, 56, was in the intensive care unit with several internal injuries, said Judy Peirce, spokeswoman for Indian River Memorial Hospital.
Jarrin calls play-by-play on KWKW in Los Angeles, the flagship of the Dodgers’ Spanish radio network.
He has covered the team since 1959 and became the No. 1 man in the booth in 1973.
Jarrin was injured Monday night in an accident on U.S. 1 in Vero Beach, the team said. He suffered a laceration of his liver, a ruptured spleen and fractured ribs.
Dr. W. Clark Beckett operated on the sportscaster early today to repair his liver and remove the spleen.
