The late Hank Gathers of Loyola Marymount was among those selected to the 1990 John Wooden All-American basketball team.

Others were Nevada Las Vegas’ Larry Johnson, Syracuse’s Derrick Coleman, La Salle’s Lionel Simmons, Oregon State’s Gary Payton and LSU’s Chris Jackson.

The selection committee of sportswriters and broadcasters voted to put Gathers on the team after his death while playing March 4, making it a six-man team.
