Gregory Dump

By law, the county does not have to inform anyone living beyond 300 feet of a proposed dump site that such a project is in the making. It is time to change that law! What happened to residents in Fallbrook also happened to residents around Gregory Canyon in Pala on the San Luis Rey River and abutting Valley Center properties.

I sympathize with the Fallbrook residents. My residence is 2,500 feet from the proposed Gregory Canyon dump!

Too bad Fallbrook, early in the game, came out in favor of the Gregory dump--there is strength in numbers, and playing one against the other just doesn’t pay. They have proven to be NIMBYs (Not in My Back Yard). We at Gregory Canyon want to protect the San Luis Rey River as well as our way of life, but we never came out with the statement, “Put it in Fallbrook!”

As to Supervisor John MacDonald’s comments that he cannot interfere with the site selection process, it would be good to remind him that he already did when, for reasons known to himself alone, he was instrumental in reinstating the Gregory Canyon site after his own department of public works rejected it twice!
