Parks, McDaniel Selected Players of Year

Marina High School center Cherokee Parks and Brea-Olinda guard Aimee McDaniel were named Orange County’s players of the year on Sunday at The Times’ basketball awards brunch at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.

Estancia’s Tim O’Brien and Rancho Alamitos’ Bob Becker were named the boys’ and girls’ coaches of the year, respectively.

Parks, a 6-foot-11 junior, averaged 22.1 points, 13.4 rebounds and shot 59% from the field. McDaniel, a 5-6 senior, averaged 16.4 points and 6.4 assists in leading Brea-Olinda to the state Division III title game.

O’Brien led Estancia (21-10) to the 3-AA division title with a 51-49 overtime victory over Servite. Becker guided Rancho Alamitos to a 21-5 record.
