SDSU Upends Pepperdine

San Diego State defeated 10th-ranked Pepperdine, 5-1, when the visiting Waves forfeited No. 5 and 6 singles and all three doubles matches in a nonconference match at SDSU.

SDSU’s Michelle Apra won at No. 1 singles, defeating Camilla Ohrman, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5. The Aztecs (11-10) are ranked 16th.

BASEBALL

Mike Gabbani came up with three home runs for Cal State Dominguez Hills as the visitors handed host U.S. International a 12-6 nonconference loss. Gabbani drove in eight runs on two three-run and one two-run homers for CSUDH (12-13-1).

Geoff Martinez got three hits for the Gulls, including a double that lifted his season total to 21. USIU (9-27-1) have lost nine consecutive games, and 13 of its past 14.

Redlands scored seven unearned runs off of UC San Diego’s five errors in two innings to defeat the visiting Tritons, 7-5. Anthony Sanchez went three for three, Karl Friedl went two for three and Ted White went two for four for UCSD (15-9-2). Redlands improved to 11-15.

Point Loma lost to visiting Cal Lutheran, 24-2, in a nonconference game.

GOLF

Liselotte Neumann won $42,500 in the first West Coast Skins game Tuesday as the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. tour arrived at the StoneRidge Country Club in Poway for the Red Robin Kyocera Inamori Classic 72-hole tournament, which will be played Thursday through Sunday.

Patty Sheehan won the remaining $7,500 in the $50,000 Skins game featuring Neumann, Sheehan, Betsy King, Patti Rizzo and Ayako Okamoto.

SOFTBALL

SDSU (12-21, 4-9) dropped a Big West Conference doubleheader to Cal State Long Beach (26-13, 9-5), losing the first game, 3-0, and the second game, 2-0. The Aztecs were hitless in the first game and managed just three hits in Game 2.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

SDSU lost to second-ranked USC, 15-13, 15-11, 15-11 in a Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match at SDSU.
