TOURNAMENTS : Santa Ana Elks Event Starts Today

Ocean View and Tustin high schools, the top two baseball teams in Orange County, are the favorites to win the 26th Santa Ana Elks tournament, which begins today at four fields.

Ocean View, the top-ranked team, is led by shortstop Daniel Hernandez and pitcher Duane Page. Hernandez is batting .405 and Page is 5-0 with 26 strikeouts.

Tustin, the second-ranked team, is led by right fielder Shawn Green and pitcher Dan Baker. Green is batting .538 with 10 multiple-hit games and Baker is 5-0 with 37 strikeouts.

Other top players scheduled to compete include Los Alamitos pitcher Todd Gragnano and first baseman Tony Napolitano, Santa Ana shortstop Octavio Medina, Pacifica pitcher Robert Toth, Foothill pitcher Kent Donnelly, Villa Park pitcher Todd Blyleven, El Toro outfielder Bo Haley and Laguna Hills first baseman Kevin Lovingier.

The championship game is set for 1:30 Wednesday at Rancho Santiago College.

The first-round pairings:

At Rancho Santiago: 10:30 a.m., Los Alamitos vs. Mission Viejo; 1:30 p.m., Orange vs. Saddleback.

At Santa Ana: 10:30, Gahr vs. El Toro; 1:30, Santa Ana vs. Pacifica.

At Tustin: 10:30, Ocean View vs. Santa Ana Valley; 1:30, Tustin vs. Foothill.

At Villa Park: 10:30, Diamond Bar vs. Irvine; 1:30, Villa Park vs. Laguna Hills.

Glenn and Estancia high schools are the favorites in the Pride of the Coast baseball tournament that begins today at four fields.

Glenn has three returning pitchers--Eddie Navarro, Juan Garcia and Rene Angulo--who won 13 of the team’s 16 games last year.

Estancia features pitcher Greg Brannis and second baseman Gary Burrows. La Mirada has three-year starting shortstop Chad Drown and left fielder Rod Hays.

The championship game is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Estancia High.

The first-round pairings:

At Newport Harbor: 11 a.m., Artesia vs. Newport Harbor; 2 p.m., Santa Fe vs. Lynwood.

At Estancia: 11, Orange Lutheran vs. Estancia; 2, Glenn vs. Rancho Alamitos.

At Corona del Mar: 11, Bolsa Grande vs. Corona del Mar; 2, Los Amigos vs. El Modena.

At Costa Mesa: 11, Leuzinger vs. Costa Mesa; 2, La Mirada vs. Dominguez.

Cerritos High School is the favorite to win the Anaheim Lions baseball tournament that begins today at two fields.

Cerritos is the defending Southern Section 4-A division champion and finished 26-6. The tournament also features defending 3-A champion Kennedy, which finished 26-5 last year.

Among the top players scheduled to compete are Fullerton catcher D.C. Olsen, Dana Hills outfielder Lance Marks, Troy pitcher Greg Windle, Kennedy shortstop Craig Roah and Sonora outfielder Brad Keays.

The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday ) at Glover Stadium.

The first-round pairings:

At Glover Stadium: 10 a.m., Westminster vs. Fullerton; 1 p.m., Garden Grove vs. Cerritos; 4, Dana Hills vs. Canyon; 7, Sunny Hills vs. Savanna.

At Brookhurst Park: 10, Anaheim vs. Woodbridge; 1, Troy vs. University; 4, Sonora vs. Western; 7, Kennedy vs. San Francisco Riordan.
