NAMES IN THE NEWS : Sedaka Decides to Have Surgery

Pop singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka, hospitalized since last week with an intestinal ailment, has decided to have surgery to correct the problem, hospital officials said today.

“He is planning on surgery, but it has not been scheduled as yet,” said Danbury Hospital spokesman Barth Keck. “Hopefully, it will be scheduled in the next week.”

Sedaka, 51, who lives in the affluent New York City suburb of Westport, Conn., was admitted to Danbury Hospital last Tuesday suffering from diverticulitis, an inflammation of the colon, hospital officials said.
