SANTA ANA ELKS BASEBALL TOURNAMENT : Callahan Helps Villa Park Shut Down No. 1 Tustin

Sean Callahan allowed one run in six innings to lead Villa Park High School to a 3-1 victory over Tustin in a championship semifinal game of the Santa Ana Elks baseball tournament Tuesday at Rancho Santiago College.

Dan Strapp pitched the last inning for the save for Villa Park (10-5-1).

Jason Martian had an RBI single, Aaron Boone walked with the bases loaded, and Matt Quint had an RBI single in the sixth for Villa Park (10-5-1). Tustin, the top-ranked team in the Orange County sportswriters’ poll, is 14-2.

Villa Park plays El Toro in the championship today at Rancho Santiago College at 1:30 p.m.

In the another championship semifinal:

El Toro 6, Los Alamitos 3--Bo Haley hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh to give El Toro the victory at Rancho Santiago. Haley also had a double and an RBI single.

Los Alamitos led, 3-2, to start the seventh before Haley hit his third home run of the season for El Toro (12-5). Paul Devine (1-0) pitched last five innings for the victory.

Santa Ana Valley 6, Irvine 4--Al Ramos and Mike Murtuagh had consecutive squeeze bunts in the seventh to cap a three-run rally by visiting Santa Ana Valley (7-9).

Armando Cueva pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit for the victory. Murtuagh had two hits and two RBIs and Scott Crosby hit a solo home run for Santa Ana Valley.

Laguna Hills 3, Foothill 1--Kevin Lovingier pitched a four-hitter at Villa Park. Lovinger (9-0) struck out seven. Mark Wells of Laguna Hills (11-6) led off the game with a home run.

Diamond Bar 5, Ocean View 4 (8 innings)--Ocean View scored twice in the seventh to tie it, 5-5, but Tommy Thompson hit a solo home run in the eighth for Diamond Bar (14-3) at Tustin.
