Audrey Tellers, the assistant principal at the University of San Diego High School, has been named superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of San Diego and will oversee 45 parish-run elementary schools and five high schools in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Tellers succeeds Father Ben Marcantonio and will become the first lay woman to hold the post when she takes office July 1. Marcantonio asked for another ministry earlier this year after three years as superintendent and two years as associate superintendent. His new assignment is pending.

As superintendent, Tellers will also head the Schools Office of the Diocese and be responsible for curriculum and personnel matters.
