Arraignment for a Yorba Linda woman accused of the brief abduction of a 9-year-old boy from a schoolyard was postponed until April 27, the district attorney’s office said Friday.

Sheila Faye Reed, 30, is being held in Orange County Jail without bail until she is arraigned on charges of kidnaping, assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a handgun on school property.

Placentia police arrested Reed Wednesday after a standoff than began when she allegedly walked onto the Van Buren Elementary School playground carrying a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

She then grabbed David Christie as he was playing catch with a friend, and led him to a nearby park, police said. Reed allegedly held the boy at gunpoint for 20 minutes until he talked her into releasing him. Reed was then taken into custody.

Since the incident, school officials have beefed up security on the campus and provided counseling for students who were frightened or confused by the incident.
