Driver Hurt During Chase on Freeway
A driver who led a California Highway Patrol officer on a chase through the Newhall Pass suffered major injuries when he crashed into a guardrail Sunday morning, authorities said.
The chase began about 3:40 a.m. on the southbound Golden State Freeway near Calgrove Boulevard in the Santa Clarita Valley, Officer Scott Davis said.
Four minutes later, the driver, whose name was not released, turned off his headlights and crashed into a guardrail north of the Foothill Freeway in Sylmar, Davis said.
The driver was taken to Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar.
Hospital officials would not reveal his condition.
The CHP had no record of what prompted the chase, Davis said.
