PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Rosas Pitches Two-Hitter, Leads Santa Ana to 6-0 Victory at El Modena

Jesse Rosas pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 to lead Santa Ana High School to a 6-0 victory over El Modena in a Century League baseball game Tuesday at El Modena.

The senior right-hander (6-3) faced only 22 batters. He allowed singles in the first and third innings, but got a double play in the first.

Santiago Lopez and Nester Gonzalez had two hits and two RBIs each for Santa Ana (8-12, 5-5 in league). John Morales added two hits for the Saints.

In other Century League games:

Canyon 2, Santa Ana Valley 0--Mike Casagranda (5-1) pitched a five-hitter for host Canyon, which scored single runs in the third and the fifth. Ryan Puskas doubled and later scored on a single by Lee Torres. In the fifth, Puskas singled, stole second, went to third on a grounder and stole home. Canyon is 9-10-1, 7-2-1.

Villa Park 7, Foothill 4--Foothill pitcher Tim Lodgard , who allowed five walks in the fifth, forced in three runs with bases on balls.

Kurt Luhrsen went two for two with two RBIs for Villa Park (12-7-1, 5-5). Clint Pearson went four for four with two RBIs for Foothill (8-11-1, 5-4-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Orange 11, Costa Mesa 8 (eight innings)--Jason Smith hit a two-run triple and scored on a single by Ruben Hernandez as Orange (10-9, 6-4) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Hernandez went three for five with a home run, a double and had three RBIs.

Laguna Hills 10, Laguna Beach 1--Ted Wilkes had a single, triple and a home run to lead visiting Laguna Hills (14-7, 9-1). Kevin Lovingier (10-1) pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 8, Westminster 0--Senior Jim Futami (4-2) pitched a one-hitter with five walks and nine strikeouts for visiting Edison (14-6, 5-5). Chris Larson had a two-out single in the fifth for Westminster.

Don Smith had two hits and four RBIs, Futami had two hits and two RBIs, and James Eidam and Steve Thobe had two hits apiece for Edison.

Ocean View 3, Marina 0--Duane Page (8-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine, and host Ocean View (16-5, 10-0) scored three runs in the fourth without a hit. With two outs and the bases loaded after two walks and a catcher’s interference call, Ocean View scored its first run on a hit batter and then two more on a throwing error.

Fountain Valley 6, Huntington Beach 3--Jeff Hale (6-3) struck out nine and allowed six hits in a complete-game victory. Hale drove in two runs with a single in the first. T.J. Graber went two for four with an RBI for host Fountain Valley (9-12, 4-6). Chris Mangles hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for Huntington Beach (5-5 in league).

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 3, Heritage Christian 2--Chris Buckels came on with the tying run at second and one out in the seventh and struck out both batters he faced to save the victory for Liberty Christian (13-4, 5-0) at Boysen Park in Anaheim. Mark Baltodano (5-2) allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings. He gave up a two-run double to John Zubas before being replaced.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 9, Brethren 0 (forfeit)--Brethren Coach Richard Thomas was ejected in the third inning and visiting Brethren had no other coach to replace him.

Whittier Christian 22, Capistrano Valley Christian 7--Paul Stoico went four for four and drove in four runs and Scott Jordan went four for five with three runs scored for host Whittier Christian (15-2, 9-0).
