Titans Land Oklahoma Guard, Estancia Pitcher Greg Brannis
Aaron Sunderland, a 6-foot point guard from Conners State Junior College in Warner, Okla., has signed a letter of intent to attend Cal State Fullerton on a basketball scholarship, the school announced Tuesday.
The Titans also received an oral commitment from Greg Brannis, a pitcher from Estancia High School, to attend the school on a baseball scholarship. Estancia Coach Paul Troxel said Brannis would sign a letter of intent Monday.
Sunderland averaged 12 points and seven assists a game this past season, helping Conners to a 36-2 record and the National Junior College Athletic Assn. championship. He shot 55% from the field and 87% from the free throw line.
Titan assistant Dan Dion said Sunderland is a quick playmaker who is most effective in the open court. He said Sunderland will compete with Wayne Williams for the starting point guard position. Both will be juniors next season.
“It should be an excellent competition,” Dion said. “Both of them can play, and you need more than one guy at that position.”
Brannis, a left-hander, is 8-4 with 63 strikeouts and a 1.63 earned-run average this season for Estancia. Last year, Brannis was 8-3 with two saves and a 1.43 ERA.
