Resting Up for Playoffs Just Fine With the NBA

The Laker coverage by The Times has been negative and critical all season, but Tuesday’s article, “The Aging Lakers,” is disgusting. The implication is that the team is old and they are criticized for not “rebuilding.” Is this the only topic Sam McManis can focus on as the team with the best record in the NBA prepares for the playoffs?

Why should they rebuild? The purpose of rebuilding is to build a championship team and the Lakers are that. This is just an especially revealing example of how Sam goes out of his way to not be supportive of the Lakers. In another recent article, he describes Magic’s play as “undeniably” brilliant. Who would want to deny it? Who would even think of denying it, outside of Sam? The subtle innuendo and mean-spirited nature of Sam’s coverage makes it clear that he is not a Laker fan.
