Camarillo Runner Malesich to Attend Texas San Antonio

Chad Malesich, the No. 2 runner on Camarillo High’s Southern Section 4-A Division championship cross-country team, has signed a national letter of intent with Texas San Antonio.

The Scorpion senior said he chose the Trans America Athletic Conference school over powers Brigham Young, Arizona and New Mexico because of its physical therapy department, although Texas San Antonio was not his primary choice.

“BYU was really where I wanted to go but they weren’t real responsive,” Malesich said.

Despite a knee injury that forced him to miss half of this track season, Malesich said he has no intention of redshirting the cross-country season.

Lord, a 6-5 sophomore forward from Glendale High, averaged 14 points a game and was Glendale College’s fourth-leading scorer.

Ventura’s Justin Wright shot a five-over-par 77 and is in a four-way tie for second place in the boys’ age 15-18 division after the first round of the Fairway Oaks Junior Classic in Abilene, Tex.

Notre Dame High’s Emilee Klein shot an 86 and is four shots off the pace in the girls’ 15-18 division.
