Union Urges Rejection of Kaiser Contract Offer

The union representing about 1,000 registered nurses at two Kaiser Permanente facilities Monday urged its members to reject a final contract offer.
Members of American Federation of Nurses, Local 535, Service Employees International Union were given details of the contract offer during an all-day meeting.
A strike vote was scheduled for Monday night. Members have three options: to accept the three-year offer, to reject it and strike, or to postpone a vote for 10 days, said union spokesman Jorge Rodriguez.
Any walkout would affect the 632-bed Los Angeles Medical Center and the 40-bed Inglewood Skilled Nursing Facility.
Kaiser spokeswoman Janice Seib said three other Kaiser hospitals in the area would handle some patients in the event of a strike.
About 11,000 licensed vocational nurses, technicians and maintenance workers at Kaiser facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties staged an eight-day walkout earlier this month.
