NATION : 6.0 Quake Shakes South Alaska

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rocked the southern Alaska coast this morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Spokeswoman Lu Page said in Menlo Park, Calif., that the temblor occurred at 8:12 a.m. local time. The epicenter was near the small community of King Salmon, on the north side of the Alaska Range and about 290 miles southwest of Anchorage.

She said that there were no immediate reports of damage but that the quake was also felt in Anchorage, Kodiak and Homer.
