Soviets Again Win Hockey Title

The Soviet Union successfully defended its title at the World Hockey Championships today with a 5-0 rout of Czechoslovakia. Valeri Kamenski’s two goals led the scoring.

It was the 22nd gold medal for the Soviets since they first competed in the championships in 1954, and their third in five years.

The Soviets finished the medal round with a 3-0 record after earlier victories over Sweden and Canada. Czechoslovakia was 1-1-1.

The Soviets notched three goals in just over five minutes of the third period.
