A man suspected in a string of bank robberies barricaded himself inside a Silver Lake district residence before surrendering to authorities, police said Thursday.
John E. Nowak, 36, of Los Angeles was taken into custody by police and FBI agents outside a home in the 3000 block of Angus Drive, Officer James Edwards said.
FBI agents armed with a search warrant went to the home about 10 p.m. Wednesday. In response, the suspect barricaded himself inside and threatened to commit suicide, Edwards said.
A Special Weapons and Tactics team was called. After a brief standoff, detectives persuaded Nowak to surrender.
Nowak, suspected in at least 10 bank robberies, was booked on suspicion of robbery, Edwards said.
