Harbor Board Member Appointed to Advisory Panel on Trade Policy
Harbor Commissioner C. Robert Langslet has been appointed to join a group of governors, state representatives and mayors to advise the U.S. trade representative on trade policies, port officials said.
The committee, created by Congress in 1974, is set up to offer a state and local perspective on trade. Langslet will represent California and the Long Beach port, the largest container cargo handler on the West Coast.
The committee, which includes Gov. George Deukmejian, is set up to advise Trade Representative Carla Anderson Hills.
“Obviously, as the leading port on the West Coast, the Port of Long Beach is acutely interested in our federal administration’s trade policies, and it is a privilege to be given an opportunity to influence those policies on a national level,” Langslet said.
