S.D. Cools It After the Heat

A weekend heat wave that sent thousands of people flocking to San Diego beaches to cool off ended Monday as quickly as it began, clearing the way for more normal temperatures this week, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The high pressure front that kept cooling sea breezes at bay weakened dramatically, allowing high temperatures to fall from 87 Sunday at Lindbergh Field to 68 degrees Monday, said forecaster Ray Robben.

In inland areas such as Fallbrook which hit 101 degrees Sunday, the difference was just as dramatic. Although the weather was still warm, Fallbrook recorded an 81 Monday. At Brown Field on Otay Mesa, a 78 was recorded Monday, down from 98 on Sunday.

With the ocean breezes returning, temperatures will be more in line with seasonal norms, said Robben. The relative humidity has also returned to normal, rising from 46% on Sunday to 70% on Monday, said Robben.

The offshore flow will bring night and morning clouds, hazy sunshine, and temperatures today ranging from a 68 at Lindbergh Field to highs of 74 to 82 in the inland areas, 63 to 73 in the mountains and 90 to 96 in the deserts. Nighttime lows will dip down to 60 at Lindbergh Field, 50 to 57 in the inland areas, 38 to 48 in the mountains and 60 to 67 in the deserts.
