A Toluca Lake man who refused to come out of his house after shooting a former girlfriend surrendered Wednesday morning after police fired tear-gas into his house, authorities said.

Nabeeh Ayoub, 32, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the three-hour standoff ended at 1:45 a.m., authorities said. He was being held without bail at the Burbank jail.

Burbank Police Sgt. Don Goldberg said Ayoub is suspected of driving his Mercedes-Benz down Sarah Street in Burbank on Tuesday night and shooting three times at Arlene Still, 32, and Jason Barbour, 29, who were walking on the street.

Still, who ended a relationship with Ayoub more than a year ago, was struck once in the left wrist and was reported in good condition at St. Joseph Medical Center. Barbour was not injured.

After the 10 p.m. shooting, the victim identified Ayoub as the gunman, Goldberg said. Two days earlier, Still and Barbour reported to police that Ayoub had pulled up next to them on the same street and displayed a gun, he said.

After the shooting, Burbank and Los Angeles police went to Ayoub’s house in the 4400 block of Placidia Avenue. Ayoub refused to come out and, because officers believed he was armed, a SWAT unit was called. Ayoub surrendered about two hours later after tear-gas was fired into the house, police said.

Goldberg said police searched his house but did not find a gun. The sergeant said three bullet shells were found in Ayoub’s car.
