SIMI VALLEY : Hazardous Wastes Collected Today

Share

The city of Simi Valley will sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day today in the Civic Center parking lot.

Motor oil, paint, used batteries, antifreeze, insecticides and other household wastes will be collected in the parking lot in front of City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., said Catherine Unseth, spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Environmental Services.

Although there is no charge for collection of these materials, the event is limited to Simi Valley residents, Unseth said.

Residents are advised to keep materials in their original containers so that chemicals can be easily identified. Citizens also should be aware that state law forbids transporting more than five gallons or fifty pounds of hazardous materials without a special license.

Unseth said volunteers are needed to assist with the collection program. Two separate one-hour orientation sessions for volunteers will be held at the Senior Citizens Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
