PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Janis’ 27 Kills Lead Foothill to Victory Over El Modena

Jeff Janis had 27 kills to lead Foothill High School to a four-game victory over El Modena Friday in a Southern Section 3-A boys’ volleyball playoff match at Foothill.

John Newcomb added 11 kills for Foothill, which won, 15-7, 12-15, 15-8, 16-14. Foothill is 17-1 and El Modena ends 15-2.

In other 3-A matches:

La Quinta 3, El Dorado 0--Chris Doherty had 13 kills to lead host La Quinta (16-1) to a 15-5, 15-7, 15-11 victory.

Rancho Alamitos 3, Lynwood 1--Richard Pearce had 20 kills and 18 blocks for visiting Rancho Alamitos (13-8) in a 15-7, 15-10, 8-15, 15-7 victory.

Esperanza 3, La Serna 1--Rocky Jones had 20 kills and Jason Galeener had 18 for visiting Esperanza (17-2) in a 7-15, 15-9, 15-9, 15-8 victory at La Serna.

In the 2-A division:

Santa Margarita 3, Gethsemane 0--Santa Margarita swept at home, 15-3, 15-5, 15-1. Santa Margarita is 15-4.

Calvary Chapel 3, Bethel Baptist 0--Christian Kingery had 10 kills to lead host Calvary Chapel (14-4) to a 15-0, 15-1, 15-3 sweep.
