2 Suspects Arrested in Rolex Robberies

Two men who police said targeted the owners of pricey Rolex watches in at least 30 armed robberies were arrested Tuesday in Gardena, one after barricading himself in a friend’s home for 3 1/2 hours.

Detectives said Christopher Pack and Ron Hinton, both 19-year-olds from Gardena, are responsible for many of a string of 75 Rolex thefts around the county since the beginning of the year.

The pair often approached their victims in office parking structures and demanded the watches--worth from $2,000 to $15,000--at gunpoint, said Sgt. Mike Foster.

Undercover officers with the Sheriff’s Department and South Bay police had been monitoring the men for about two weeks, said Deputy Richard Garcia. Officers decided to arrest the two Tuesday after they spotted detectives in West Los Angeles, Garcia said.

Pack was arrested when he returned home about noon. About 40 officers surrounded the house where Hinton was, two blocks away. He surrendered at 3:20 p.m.

Pack and Hinton were being held at the Hawthorne Jail on $250,000 bail each.
