From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Gov. George Deukmejian signed a bill designed to provide a truce in the turf battles between the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and the Southern California Rapid Transit District. The new law represents what Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) and others call a first step leading to the merger of the two long-embattled transit agencies. Among other things, the new law requires that Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and the five Los Angeles County supervisors must serve on the boards of both agencies and attend at least four key meetings each year.
