Quake, Hurricane Strain Resources of Red Cross

ORLANDO, Fla. —
The American Red Cross received a record $165 million in donations in 1989 but spent $151 million, three times more than the record. Most of the money, $127 million, was spent on victims of Hurricane Hugo in the Southeast and the California earthquake, Red Cross Chairman George Moody said Tuesday at the organization’s annual convention.
