SUMMER SPLASH II: Orange County : Our Hottest picks for a Jam-Packed Summer : COMEDY

Share

Orange County wades into its second hundred years facing a summer that’s filled with a wider range of arts and entertainment activities than ever.

The Calendar staff of the Times Orange County Edition selects highlights among the hundreds of choices offered at the county’s theaters, art museums, outdoor amphitheaters, concert halls, comedy clubs, movie theaters and elsewhere to stave off any summer doldrums that might dare to take roost.

Among the comedians visiting Orange County this summer are two excellently awesome dudes from Saturday Night Live, a standup fixated on male-female relationships and one of the loudest (and nastiest) comics around.

* On Aug. 10, Dana Carvey and Mike Myers will bring their SNL characters to the Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim. Carvey, probably best known for his “church lady” incarnation, also teams up with Myers on SNL for the “Wayne’s World” routine. That’s the one where Wayne (Myers) and his gnarly best friend (Carvey) annoy everybody while hosting their very own cable television show.

* The up-the-volume Sam Kinison, who was recently usurped by Andrew (Dice) Clay as the universe’s most controversial comic, will return to the county June 23 for a Celebrity Theatre performance.

* Ritch Shydner offers his bemused reflections on his girlfriend and women in general at the Improv in Irvine Sept. 18-23. At the Improv in July will be Jeff Foxworthy (July 3-8) and Paula Poundstone (July 10-15).

* The Laff Stop in Newport Beach offers Kip Addotta June 15-16, and Brad Garrett for a one night stand July 26.

A list of summer arts and entertainment activities for children will appear in Wednesday’s Calendar.
