The British Columbia Supreme Court has rejected an NHL request for an injunction to stop a Pepsi-Cola Canada Ltd. contest based on the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The playoffs ended Thursday with the Edmonton Oilers’ victory over the Boston Bruins, Justice Allan Stewart noted in his Friday ruling.

Pepsi submitted an affidavit that said no further advertising of the campaign is planned, and Stewart agreed the promotion that ends July 31 would pose little future harm to the league.

NHL lawyer Rees Brock said Pepsi had negotiated unsuccessfully with NHL Services for the exclusive right to associate its product with the league. Coca-Cola, which purchased the rights, insisted the NHL uphold its exclusivity or pay back the fee paid by Coca-Cola.
