A young man convicted of killing his mother and grandmother was sentenced Tuesday to life in state prison without the possibility of parole.

Mario Newsome, 21, of San Diego, was convicted of the Sept. 5 slayings of Marsha Newsome, 49, and Mamie Newsome, 67, in their house on Sychar Road.

Testimony from his trial in April indicated that the grandmother had argued with Newsome over his use of her credit card, on which he had charged a television and a video cassette recorder.

Mamie Newsome was found strangled with an extension cord, and her daughter came home minutes later and found her body on the floor.

According to a witness, who was one of Newsome’s friends in the house at the time, Marsha Newsome argued with her son before she was stabbed to death.
