Vote to Return Supervisors

Share

Two low-key incumbents are seeking reelection Tuesday to the county Board of Supervisors against little credible opposition. Voters should give Leon Williams a third term in the 4th District and return John MacDonald for a second term in the 5th.

North County’s MacDonald, who faces only a write-in candidate, deserves credit for honoring his pledge to support a North County landfill site. He also has taken an active role in promoting the county’s staggered work hour, express bus and telecommuting programs.

Williams, whose district covers much of the central and southern portions of the city of San Diego, takes credit for creating the county’s Human Relations Commission and hate crimes registry. He successfully worked to install call boxes on county freeways.

His major opponent, Willie Blair, does not show a grasp of the issues that could be expected of a former aide to San Diego Mayor Maureen O’Connor. The race’s third candidate, Los Angeles slum landlord and former San Diego Councilman Michael Schaefer, was incarcerated last week in the Metropolitan Correctional Center on a contempt of court citation. Enough said.
