20-Year-Old Held in Drive-By Shooting
A 20-year-old Oxnard man was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of participating in a drive-by shooting, authorities said.
Witnesses told police that a car with its lights switched off parked outside a house in the 400 block of Helsam Street in El Rio and fired into the living room window of a house, said Lt. Joe Funchess of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
No one was hurt, Funchess said.
Based on witnesses’ accounts, sheriff’s deputies arrested Fidel Melendez at his house about 6 a.m. Saturday, Funchess said.
It was not known whether the incident was gang-related, Funchess said.
Melendez was arrested on suspicion of shooting at an occupied dwelling and for several outstanding warrants, including failing to appear in court on a traffic citation, Funchess said.
Melendez was being held Saturday at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $5,500 bail, Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Larson said.
