Boy Struck by Van Dies of His Injuries
A 14-year-old Saugus boy who was struck by a van as he ran across busy Seco Canyon Boulevard to meet a group of friends died Sunday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies said.
The boy’s parents requested that his name not be released, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Thomas said.
The teen-ager darted across the street about 3 p.m. Friday after his friends shouted out his name. Sheriff’s deputies said the youths, who had just been dismissed from school, saw the accident. “He just ran out,” Thomas said.
The driver of the van, Penny Giacalone of Valencia, was not cited. Deputies are investigating the cause of the incident.
The teen-ager died about 1 p.m. Sunday at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, deputies said.
